I was sure that the whole story was a set-up for the old "dead-dog" punchline. I went along with it enjoying the delivery as a joke until the very end when Max offered to put the dog up for adoption, and the guys offered to list it on their web site! The story was real! (Well at least the live schnauzer was real) I would have adopted that little fella myself if I had heard the story when it was told the first time, instead of as a repeat/ best-of summer fill-in.

Fantastic story by Max -- personally, I like the name LUCKY!! :D And hey, maybe the good Lord MEANT for Max to have a dog.... Should he really be giving it away? And if he does, is he going to ask for $275?? Candy Cane

Actually, the real question here is, since Max has been "in the business" for 20 years, does he know anyone in California who deals the way he does? Where can I get a fabulous deal on a new car???

The story about the mistaken Vaseline puts me in mind of a problem I had once. When my oldest child was young I, late at night in the dark, once brushed my teeth with diaper ointment...two different times.

when this aired, i was able to hear the whole show, but i sat in the car til max was done. what a great story and telling of it even if it might not be true. hans might have been too much, but the rest was entertaining and worth the air time.

The Max & the Schnauzer segment was great. People who didn't give this 4 wrenches are mensches.

I loved the whole call, especially Max describing his hapless salesman who was so hungry that he rode his bike into the new car.

I love Car Talk, but hated the Max story. Too much time wasted on this caller and his unbelievable tale.
