#1030: The New Delhi Catessens

Jul 24, 2010
This week, Car Talk kicks off with a few unsuccessful names for international sports teams. Ready to catch the Bolivia DeHavillands vs. The Prague Tologists? Well, neither are we. Then it's off to Georgia, where David's getting a hot foot from the floor of his Isuzu. Meanwhile, out in Michigan, Devon's Jeep has turned into the lunch spot for critters. Happily, the solution may be as near as her baby's diaper. Also, Brian in Washington learns the cost of making his wife drive around in the family mini-van while he's cruising in his Lexus convertible, and does the future of Sara in California's relationship rest on how many quarts her sweetie used in an ill-fated oil change? All this and lots more, this week on Car Talk.

Show Open Topic

Rejected international sports team names.

This Week's Puzzler

What was Bob driving that dark night on the deserted highway that helped him escape a fate of hungry buzzards?

Last Week's Puzzler

Another great show Tom and Ray!
Favorite Moment:
Caller Jim from Virginia, MN was great! Listening to him - I felt like I was back home in Minuhsohtah listening in on a conversation at a local Mom & Pop restaurant where they still make homemade blue plate specials (hot beef, pork or turkey sandwiches with bread, mashed potatoes and gravy)for under $5. Tom and Ray,you're right about having to go to the small rural towns in northern MN to hear that Minuhsohtahn accent now days. The bigger towns have lost the Scandinavian accent. That's for sure! Yah, you betcha! Oh, they don't wear coon skin caps but they do wear huntin' clothes or fishin' clothes year round. Guys, you got to visit the rural towns in northern Minuhsohtah. The scenery is awesome and the people are great, if not entertaining. Remember the picture shows of Fargo and Grumpy old men? The producers of those movies did their homework on the people that live in those parts and depicted it quite well. Minuhsohtahns aren't stupid, they're actually very well educated because they take education very seriously there. What's wrong with keeping the culture of their accent? A huge fan of your show, Dale P.S. Listen to the clip of Jim from MN so to refresh your memory of the accent and re-read this message again with keeping in mind the accent so that perhaps you can hear the accent in my message.
