#1132: Heard It Through the Grape-Nuts

Aug 06, 2011
We're all getting older, so as a public service, this week on Car Talk we update a few classic songs to reflect our demographic shift. For example, "I get by with a little help from Depends." In matters automotive, Mickey's Nissan sounds like it's getting a wedgie whenever he turns on the AC, and a recent fender bender has Stephanie worried about passing an upcoming smog test. Also, Lisa's looking for help trying to convince her husband to rent an RV for a road trip to Graceland, and Doctor Rich's new cigar habit's given him both a stinky car-- and a nasty cough. And, what bad advice could leave Sally with a tombstone reading "She died getting 95 miles per gallon"? All this and lots more, this week on Car Talk.

love your shows!

We recently drove from Toronto, ON Canada to Victoria, BC. We chose to drive through the US for this trip and we had a wonderful time driving through the beautiful states... we had plenty of time to spend listening to several of your "classic" shows along the way. We really enjoyed every one of them and I am now a fan!
Favorite Moment:
We loved the "famous last words" segment, and we really enjoyed the "credits" at the end of the show. Most of all, we enjoyed the hilarious banter that you two have going on. Thanks so much for entertaining us during a very long drive across the continent.

Smoking Cigars that Makes a Stinky Car

Dear Tom & Ray I have listening to your show every Saturday afternoon in my car on Sirus Radio, and I have always enjoy it very much for many years. This week Lisa was looking for help trying to convince her husband to rent an RV for a road trip to Graceland, and Doctor Rich's new cigar habit's given him both a stinky car-- and a nasty cough. You suggested that Droctor Rich keep the drivers door window open just enough to allow the smoke to be drawn out the window by the draft. You also suggested that he put a hose out the crack in the window and he could exhale the smoke through the hose. I have another suggestion. Have you ever hear of a product called Zero Odor? It comes in a spray container that you can keep in your car. When a person smokes it can be sprayed in the car and cancel the odor of smoke. It also can be used on other kinds of odors, and works very well. If you are interested you can contact them at their website: zeroodor.com. I think you should check it out. Terry L. Smith

Bubye!!

Your ignorant comments, coupled with your caller's ignorant comments about the state of New Hampshire, just lost you a listener. Massachusetts people lose 3 or 4 teeth, and marry their brother by crossing the state line? GOOD! Then maybe you all will stop clogging up our highways every summer, to get to our lakes, and every winter to get to our mountains.
