#1251: The Suzy Saga

Dec 22, 2012
This week on Car Talk, Suzy's drive across Mexico is off to a rocky start. She hasn't even crossed the border, and her Vanagon is already making a new noise that could foreshadow the Death of a Transmission. Will Tom and Ray counsel her to turn back, or just to go shopping for a good pair of noise-canceling headphones? Elsewhere, Patricia's Subaru is having troubles starting, and exacerbating the problem is a large buffalo grazing between her and her car; and Katie's right leg is showing its displeasure with her new Volvo by going numb when she drives it. Also, does Neil's son's decision to play the double bass mean Neil's on a one-way street to Minivan Land, and is Kelly's boyfriend nuts for insisting on warming up his truck for 10 minutes in 50 degree weather? All this, and lots more, this week on Car Talk.

double bass

I haul my double bass in a Honda Fit. The neck goes between the front seats. I've also hauled it in a Ford Focus ZX3, a Subaru Legacy wagon, and a Honda Civic 4-door. When we were kids we put a bass and 3 people in a VW bug. But the seats didn't have head rests. BTW the Volvo is a wuss car, too.

Fitting a Double Bass in your car.

Neil's tale about problems fitting a double bass in his car reminded me how my daughter and her college friend fitted one in her 1969 Morris Minor - Here's a photo http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1322588147_12562 Lateral thinking is all it takes! It did spark a dood discussion on the Owners Club website about other unusual loads - http://www.mmoc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=42076&hilit=double+bass Merry Christmas from England! Eddie Foster
