#1511: The Ultimate Road Trip

Mar 14, 2015
This week on The Best of Car Talk, Mike and his uncle are planning to get their kicks on Route 66, driving the legendary highway from California to Chicago this summer. But the ultimate road trip demands the ultimate road trip car, right? So, anyone out there have a ’54 Corvette you’re willing to lend out to a couple of strangers? Elsewhere, Penny is wondering whether it was a good idea to buy a used Volvo from her ex-husband’s new wife; and, Tom and Ray may have to resort to desperate measures to help Kevin turn off his oxygen sensor light. Speaking of desperate measures, Ellen pays a return visit to Stump the Chumps to let us know how far she had to go to get her husband to stop buying performance add-ons for his Blazer. All this and more, this week on The Best of Car Talk.

Route 66 ref

You mentioned the show "Route 66" and didn't know how Martin Milner's chacter, Tod Stiles, could afford his vette. Well, Tod's dad was very rich. Tod went to Yale. His dad dies and Tod finds out dad was now broke, so Tod takes off with the vette his dad had given him just before he died.
