RAY: This is from my classic car series.
Last month Tommy dragged me, kicking and screaming, to one of those classic car auctions. I guess he wanted to see what it would take to get his Fiat up to 'auction grade' so to speak.
Including the two of us, there were 30 potential buyers present that day. Ten of the buyers bought fewer than 6 cars. Eight of the buyers bought more than 7 cars. Five buyers bought more than 8 cars and 1 buyer bought more than 9.
How many of those 30 buyers who were there that day, bought 6, 7, 8, or 9 cars? And I should remind listeners that there were dozens of cars there.

RAY: Here's the answer. You could attack this by beginning to draw diagrams and say, OK, this set is the people who bought seven cars or more. But you could look at it another way.
You've got 10 people who bought fewer than 6 cars. And you've got 1 person who bought more than 9 cars. That's 11 people. We had 30 buyers to begin with, and if we subtract those 11 who we know didn't participate in the six, seven, eight or nine cars --
