Frank's Party of Five

Jul 28, 2001

RAY: This will be brief because last week's was so lengthy, and it really wasn't that -- I mean considering the length of it, my brother is now looking at me saying what was last week's puzzler. We just discussed it ten minutes ago.

TOM: Oh, it's Doug -- about Doug, yeah, that was long, but it was good.

RAY: You liked it huh?

TOM: I did.

RAY: Well, see how you like this one buddy.

TOM: Yeah, OK, go ahead.

RAY: My neighbor Frank says to me one day, he says I have five children. I say I know that. He says half of them are boys. I said I'll get right back to you. Can you explain that?

TOM: Well, that's it huh?

RAY: Now if you think you know the answer...

TOM: That's brief.

RAY: It is brief.

TOM: Yeah.

Answer:

RAY: Now people immediately start thinking about dogs, cats, canaries, and the like. They figured somehow or other he's, you know -

TOM: Five children.

RAY: I mean how can you have -- how can half -- how can you have five and then half, right? Does he have half a boy?

TOM: I don't know.

RAY: Well, he does.

TOM: Oh.

RAY: And it would be correct to say that ten percent of them are boys. Sixty percent of them are boys, and a hundred percent of them are boys. Therefore...

TOM: They're all boys.

RAY: They're all boys. Half of them are boys. Are they not?

TOM: I don't like it.

RAY: I knew you wouldn't.

TOM: I don't.

RAY: But our winner liked it. Who's our winner?

TOM: Well, I'm not going to send this person anything. The winner is Barbara Beck from The Cats in California, Los Gatos, California.
