What’s important for us is that we try and get the best possible price for your vehicle, enabling us to directly send proceeds to the stations we all love.
Does NPR handle the cars directly?
NPR focuses on what they’re best at, quality programming. For all cars donated through the CarTalk VDP program, they are processed through our partner ARS. Advanced Remarketing Services handle thousands of cars every month, and are able to ensure it goes to the best possible home.
Where does my car go?
Once we’ve collected your car (which we can do across the US), it goes to a processing center. This is where the fun begins. Each car is evaluated for its current condition and history. These centers are extremely experienced at this and ultimately will decide the fate of your car.
Obviously there are some special cases… Last year we had a Dodge 880 donated. Not just any Dodge, but one that was owned by the wife of one of the Dodge brothers. That one went to be restored and was actually given away in a raffle (!) for the station. More on that here,
What happens to it?
Depending on the piece above, your car will likely have one of three different outcomes. The first is that it will go to an auction. Next up, if it’s in good condition we will directly look for potential buyers. In the final most common scenario, the car will be recycled. This is when the car is stripped down for parts depending on the condition of the different components. Once that’s done, the final metal is crushed and it’s recycled to find a new home.
We always try to get the best possible price for the car, and we'll obviously share a donation receipt with you to claim off your taxes too.
