Time for the new puzzler. This one is automotive and folkloric and all the things we like.
Here we go.
This one comes from the days when Krusty first came on to work for us.
So Krusty had an old 55 Chevy pickup truck, or something like that. A real beast of a truck. This thing was beautiful.
One day after our work day was finished, Krusty was outside on the street with his pickup truck. He's got the right rear wheel jacked up. He's got a little hydraulic jack and he has the right rear wheel off the ground.
I'm ready to go home for the night. So I am on my way out and I see him. So I ask him what's wrong. I ask him if he has a flat tire or something and did he need help?
And he says, "No, I don't..." and then he grumbles a bunch of words under his breath, he mumbles something about "starter, motor, battery, late for dinner..." I couldn't quite understand him. And I was late for dinner too, so I got in my car and drove away.
And as I drove away, I saw him let the truck down. And I saw him drive away in the opposite direction.
So, what was he doing? And what were these mumblings all about?
Good luck.
So, what was he up to? And what were these mumblings all about?
Here is the answer.
His starter motor had conked out or his battery was dead or some such thing and he was late for dinner. And he knew we didn't have time to bring the truck in and charge the battery and besides, we didn't have a six volt battery charger anymore. And he didn't have time to certainly change the starter motor.
So he decided that this was the easiest way to get the truck started.
He jacked up the truck, just the one right rear wheel. Then he put the truck in gear and turned the switch on. He grabbed the lug wrench and used the lug wrench like you would a crank. He got that right rear wheel to turn and those pistons started moving. And by doing so, he effectively jumpstarted the truck without using the battery or the starter motor.
Love that one!
