What's your take on cruise control for short distances?

Dear Car Talk | Apr 01, 1998
Dear Tom and Ray:
to use the cruise control for even short distances (three or four miles is fine
with him). I told him this is not good for the car. He looked in the owner's
manual, and since there was no mention of when to use or not use the cruise
control, he said I was wrong.
We asked my father, and Dad told me I'm wrong, too.
What do you say? Please don't respond unless you're on my side. -- Beth
RAY: Dear Beth: For reasons that I'm sure will be clear to you, we are unable to
