RAY: This puzzler was sent in by John LeCarra and he gave me full obfuscatory leeway here, said I could do whatever I wanted to, but I didn't have to go too far.
Most of the cars currently produced for sale in the U.S. have one of these. Some cars have two. Nearly none have three. At least I've never seen a car that came from the factory with three. Some but not many have four. And none have more.
And the question is, what am I talking about?

Answer:
RAY: Are you ready for the answer?
TOM: I got it. It's tires!
RAY: I'm not talking about your MG! I'm talking about something that we all notice when we're stopped behind another car: the number of tailpipes. Most cars have one tailpipe. Some cars have two tailpipes; I don't think I've ever seen one with three. And some cars like the BMW X5 have four. But I've never seen one with more. I'm sure there's one out there and we'll hear about it, but until then do we have a winner?
TOM: Yeah we do. The winner this week is Ann Shane from Kalamazoo, Michigan, and for having her answer selected at random from among the pile of correct answers that we got, Ann is going to get a 26-dollar gift certificate to the Shameless Commerce Division at cartalk.com, with which she can get our new four-CD set called Field Guide to the North American Wacko.
RAY: Lucky you Ann!
