Springfield, Again...

Mar 11, 2023

Okay all. It is puzzler time. And as you all probably know, the puzzler today is an extension of last week's puzzler.

We got so many responses to the puzzler about Springfield that we have extended it to this week.

So here it is. Again. Just in case you missed it the last few times we sent it out...

My brother Tommy made the huge mistake of claiming on air that the most popular name for a city or town in our country is Springfield. He then said that there was a Springfield in every single state.

He was very incorrect about this. About both of these things. He was more incorrect than usual!

We got many people calling and writing in about it.

So, here is the puzzler. Again.

What is the most popular name for a city or town in our country?

And here is the hint. It is NOT Springfield...

Good luck.

Answer:

Okay all. It is finally, finally time for the answer to this puzzler!

Although, I should mention the answer to this puzzler is different today than it was when we first aired this in the 1990s. I don't know if it is different because there are more towns and cities now, or if because we were wrong back then. I think maybe the reason is Google didn't exist! So we were not able to find this detailed of an answer!

The puzzler question was as follows. My brother made an incorrect statement on air. One of many. Incorrect but hilarious statements were his speciatly.

Tommy said that the most popular name for a city or town in our country was Springfield. Said there was one in every state. He was wrong. And you all wrote in and called to let us know.

So, what is the most popular name for a city or town in our country?

Well, here is the answer, from back when we first aired this puzzler. The answer was Fairview. At the time, there were 66 Fairviews in our country.

However! The answer now, if you Google this question, is Washington! These days there are 88 different Washingtons in our country.

So there you have it. Don't ask me why it is different now. I don't have that answer!
