A Thousand Cars Sold

Dec 13, 2022

And... We're back! Until the holiday break, that is.

Our puzzler today. Okay, here goes. This is an automotive puzzler. Short and sweet.

Way back in 1992, Saturn Motorcar Company had the distinction of averaging more than 1000 cars sold, per dealership. We all remember Saturns right? Memorable brand.

During that time, only one other car company accomplished this, selling more than 1000 cars per year per dealership.

What car company was it?

This is a hard one. Good luck with this one.

Answer:

Time for the answer to this puzzler.

A puzzler about Saturn, the car manufacturer who back in 1992 had the lucky distinction of averaging more than 1000 cars sold, per dealership, across the country.

Now the question was, at that time, there was only one other car maker who could claim this same thing.

So, it was my son Louie who guessed it. But it took a couple of tries.

First, he said, Chevrolet. Makes sense, right? Very popular brand. But that was not correct. Then he guessed Volkswagen. Again, a good guess, but not correct.

The correct answer is Hyundai.

Not what we expected, but the correct answer!

And here is why. At that time, Hyundai was offering the cheapest new car on the market. It was the least expensive car in the galaxy at that time. And the car was decent. Customers flocked to the cheapest price in order to get something that was maybe not the best but was at least reliable. That year, Hyundai sold on average 1500 or so, per dealership, across the country.
