We dove into DriversEd.com to find out as best we could how much the classes that the company offers will cost a teen driver. The prices we found for teen driver’s education classes vary from $29.95 in Georgia to $139.95 for instructor-led classes in Texas. In some states, there are multiple steps to earn a driver's license. For example, in California, a student must first get a permit. We found it tricky to determine exactly what DirverEd.com was offering for its reduced price of $29.95. Our research points to it being just a permit test prep course. On the DriversEd.com section for California, it mentions that students need 30 hours of course time plus multiple hours of -in-vehicle practice time with an instructor.
The same was true when we researched Massachusetts. DriversEd.com gives the impression that the course is helpful in obtaining one’s driver’s license, but having just put two teens through the Massachusetts system, it was clear to this author that DriversEd.com does not offer all of the required instruction. We came away unsure exactly what DriversEd.com really does in these states.

DriversEd.com had prices that were both confusing and also seemed too good to be true to us. Check out the example we chose above. The “California Drivers Ed” class is $50.95. However, if you opt to choose the California Drivers Ed class with Allstate Roadside services the price drops to just $24.95. Why would it drop by adding more services?
Did you notice the small print below the big bold print? We clicked to see what the prices for the required in-car training were. When asked for a zipcode we input nine-oh-two-one-oh, 90210 (It was a good show!). Two prices are then offered. An Enhanced in-car training course with a discounted price of $404, or a Comprehensive course for $674. Again, more uncertainty about pricing for this state.

Car Talk dug into the available third-party reviews of DriversEd.com. In our previous story on the Five Best Online Driver’s Education Courses, we noted that 94% of reviews are Great or Excellent on Trustpilot. DriversEd.com also earns a respectable A+ Better Business Bureau rating. We dug a bit deeper into the BBB site and found that DriversEd.com has a 1-star rating from reviewers who posted there. One recent review by ASHASH was typical of the ones we found at BBB. It reads in part,
“They don't respond to email, don't answer the phone, and don't follow through with requests. The program failed my son even though he got over 80%, he called and emailed them and got no response. I did the same and got no response. I finally did a live chat and was promised his test scores would be sent to me. Nothing. I went in to try and find them myself and the program had been wiped clean and he had to start over. Now they have locked him out and I can't get anyone to respond to me.”
We also looked at the user reviews of DriversEd.com on Yelp. We chose the Oakland California location and saw that DriversEd.com earns a ⅗ star rating from users. The reviews seemed to be pretty polarized. Either a 1-star rating with a long list of complaints, or a 5-star rating. Many of the 1-star ratings referred to difficulty reaching the company for help with issues.
