Nexus Auto Transport is a large national car shipping company based in Chicago. The company has been around since 2016 and offers services for shipping vehicles of all types, as well as the ability to ship door-to-door, which can be a huge benefit for customers that want to ship without the hassle of having to move the vehicle around prior to and after shipment.
Nexus Auto Transport also offers the rare ability to place a small deposit to ship a vehicle, which is refundable. That, combined with its super-fast quote process that does not require personal information, makes Nexus a forward-thinking company in a business where companies frequently take everything but a person’s blood type to give quotes.

Shipping companies look at several factors when making decisions on what to charge to ship a car. The time of year, size/make/model of vehicle, distance, and speed of shipment all play a role in pricing. Our sample rates below were obtained using a 2015 Subaru Outback as the sample vehicle and “as soon as possible” as the shipment request date.

Shipping a vehicle with Nexus appears to be a straightforward process. The company offers quick online quotes and as of January 2023, no longer requires a reservation fee to get the ball rolling. Once your reservation is confirmed, Nexus reaches out to its network of shippers to find one that fits your needs. The company says that it will work around your schedule to ship at a time that best fits your needs. Once the vehicle reaches its destination, you or the person you’ve shipped to will have an opportunity to inspect the vehicle for damage and condition. Any balance you owe for the shipment can be paid directly to the driver, you sign off on the bill of lading, and that’s it.
Nexus offers a dead-simple online quote system and offers the ability to quickly enter two locations to get a distance and cost to ship a vehicle. It then offers three shipping options with pricing. There’s typically a “premium” enclosed price, a “reliable” best price option, and a “fastest” expedited option.
Like all shipping companies, Nexus considers a variety of factors when setting its shipping rates. They include:
Nexus does not require that your vehicle be insured prior to shipping, but the company recommends that you carry insurance anyway. Its policy will protect your vehicle for up to $250,000 in damages if the trucker’s policy does not cover your claim, but be aware of what that policy actually covers. Most shipping insurance policies only cover damages that are caused by the driver’s direct negligence.

Positive Reviews
We had a 5 star experience with Nexus Auto Transport. This was our first time to move a car across the country. Nexus helped us navigate the process. They were professional, understood our questions and were reliable. Our car arrived in 3 days and in great shape. We highly recommend their services. (Don P.)
Fast and pretty smooth customer service. Vehicle was picked up and dropped off at locations provided. Got to its destination faster than I expected. Love the door to door pick up. Definitely would use this service again when needed. The price was great for economy price surge right now. Thanks! (Marlin M.)
Nexus did an excellent job shipping my car from Chicago to Seattle. After receiving a TON of phone calls from different services offering to ship my car I became nervous about selecting the right one. From the initial phone call all the way thru their checking in on my satisfaction after delivery I was pleased. In fact, I have another car to ship and I will be calling NEXUS to do it. They were not the cheapest, but there is safety and security in selecting the right company. Don't risk your car over a couple hundred dollars! (John S.)
Negative Reviews
We contracted for one price and when it came time to actually ship the car on the day of, they said they needed 200 more dollars or it wasn’t going to happen. We settled on 100 more dollars but I am not sure what the purpose of a contract is with them if they can change the rates because gas goes up. If gas goes down I’m pretty sure they don’t cut you a check. By the time they gave me this info, it was too late to book anyone else. (Dan M.)
Some shipping companies are aggregators that work across multiple car transporters and will help you price shop across them. The aggregators are responsible for vetting the individual carriers and often will show you the consumer ratings and individual price quotes so you understand exactly who will be moving your vehicle. They also tend to offer standardized insurance packages that work across their carrier network.
