Our Superpowers
Nobody knows public radio and car donation like Car Talk
The Car Talk Vehicle Donation Program’s sole focus is public media clients. Our team focuses on delivering advice and analysis for fundraising strategies specific to membership programs. We create fresh content for all digital marketing channels as well as custom on air promos with some of public radio’s best talent. In addition to the power of the Car Talk brand, our team consists of public radio legends like Doug Berman, Ray Magliozzi, and Jay Clayton.
We focus on value and we never undersell
We return the highest percentage of gross sales back to our station partners. We have raised over $70 million for public radio and continue to ensure we are constantly perfecting our remarketing practices to deliver best in class returns. Our remarketing partner, Advanced Remarketing Services, uses a proprietary tech platform to ensure vehicles are each treated individually and sold for the highest value with lowest fees for the best ROI for stations and donors; we consistently outperform other vendors in the space.
Partnership is at the heart of what we do
We do more than process donation vehicles, we collaborate side by side with our partner stations to deliver volume with expert SEO advice, digital health checks, custom spots that sound like your station and ad campaigns that make the best use of limited resources. We also uniquely collect donor stories that help to tell the incredible back stories of these donations and why donors have chosen to support their favorite station with this gift. These donor stories get at the core of what matters to public radio: their listeners.
A name you and your donors can trust
We are committed to raising as much as possible for our stations by putting the best interest of donors and their donations at the forefront of our work. Through our Donor Console, donors are able to track their vehicle through every step of the process and through our station report console, stations are kept aware of each donation, its status, and 100% transparent accounting. We hold ourselves accountable to a standard of transparency and excellence that is simply not matched by any other program.
Super Squad
Doug
Benevolent Overlord
Doug's promising career took a wrong turn back in 1987. At the time, Dougie had a "real job" as News Director of Boston's NPR affiliate, WBUR. He had been News Director at the NPR station in Amherst, Massachusetts, a Production Assistant for "Morning Edition" and "All Things Considered" at NPR in Washington, D.C., and had graduated from Wesleyan University in Connecticut, where, according to some accounts, he majored in West African drumming (hence, "Bongo Boy").
But in the late '80s, as his mother laments, "He fell in with the wrong crowd." In 1987, when Car Talk was still a fledgling local show, Dougie took charge, turning it into a massive hit for NPR, and a beloved weekly experience for millions.
In the late 90s, Doug launched Wait, Wait… Don’t Tell Me!, which he then developed into another beloved, hit show for NPR. Wait Wait continues to tour the country and be appointment listening for millions every week.
Now, in addition to his ongoing work with those two shows, he’s helping NPR stations raise money through CTVDP, and serving as a programming consultant for NPR.

Ray
Clack
Ray Magliozzi is one half of NPR’s show “Car Talk,” a longtime independent repair-shop owner, a Dear Car Talk columnist and a car reviewer on CarTalk.com. The Car Talk Vehicle Donation Program is a legacy of the public radio show Car Talk. For more than three decades, Tom and Ray Magliozzi (aka Click and Clack, the Tappet Brothers) answered listeners' questions about cars, and provided laughs, comfort, and trustworthy advice to millions. While Tom passed away in 2014, Ray and the rest of the staff decided to continue this program as a way to give back to the stations that were our friends and partners for decades–and whose programs we listen to every day.

Favorite CTVDP donation?
Quite a few! But two that come to mind the most are a 1964 Dodge Custom 880 donated on behalf of WDET. The car was originally owned by one of the Dodge brothers' wives and has been a really unique and fun donation to work with the station on. We also did a raffle of Tom Magliozzi’s 1993 Mazda Miata with the team at WBUR, I had the opportunity to drive the vehicle documents directly to the winner and snap some pictures of the car in its new garage in Newburyport, MA.

Dream Car?
Can I have more than one? Okay okay, fine. I’m a bit of a racing fiend, you see. Count me in for a 1992 left hand drive Lancia Delta Integrale Evo 2 in Red. In the original spec, with the Momo steering wheel sitting atop of those magnificent retro yellow dials. Or this one works too. And maybe a recovery truck to follow me around for the moment it inevitably gives up the ghost...
