Colorado Car Donation

Donate a car, truck, motorcycle, RV, boat, and any other mode of transportation to Colorado Public Radio! There are about 1.8 million vehicles registered in Colorado, with the average car being 12.8 years old. That means there are literally thousands of cars in the Centennial State that you wouldn’t invest a full tank of gas in, let alone the regular maintenance to keep it on the road. However, these forgotten, old, and unloved cars can be turned into a great source of revenue for your favorite public radio station in Colorado.

What paperwork do I need to complete my car donation?

To complete your Colorado donation, you’ll need to transfer your vehicle title. Here’s how:

  • Print and sign your name in the seller/owner field, in the very top left hand portion of the back of the title.
  • Be sure to fill out your name EXACTLY as it appears on the front of the title.
  • Colorado requires a title for any vehicle. If you can’t find the title, you can file for a replacement with the state.

On the day of your vehicle pickup, give the driver the completed title along with the keys to the vehicle. After your car is sold, you'll receive a vehicle donation receipt for tax purposes.

Can I still donate my car to a Colorado Public Radio station if it fails the state’s emissions test?

Yes! If your vehicle is newer than 1982, you’re required to have emissions tested every two years in Colorado, and it’s the reason a lot of vehicles get relegated to permanent driveway duty. But we’ll take it, and you’ll see a tax benefit along with the satisfaction of helping your favorite local Public Radio affiliate.

How much money from my car donation goes to my local public radio station?

We're very proud that our program returns the largest percentage of gross proceeds to stations. We are all public radio employees, and fans. We are doing this because we love your station as much as you do. There are costs and fees that have to be deducted during the car donation process. We have to pay for car pickup or towing, title transfer, auction or dismantling fees, and other costs associated with the program. However, when it's all said and done, we return a minimum of 70% of the gross proceeds to the station, a number that makes your station very happy.

Does the Car Talk Vehicle Donation Program partner with my local Colorado Public Radio station?

The Car Talk Vehicle donation program will provide funds to the Colorado Public Radio station of your choice. Colorado Public Radio delivers music, news, and cultural programming throughout the state. When you donate a car to Colorado Public Radio, you’ll help support favorite programs such as Colorado Matters, Purplish, and At a Distance.
