Donate a car in Louisiana

Whether it’s national programming like All Things Considered, locally produced, nationally broadcast programs like Harry Shearer’s Le Show, or local broadcasting like Louisiana Considered, Louisiana’s public radio stations have become a part of your life.

You may have supported one of these great stations with a cash donation, but you may not have considered donating your old car to support NPR and its member stations in Louisiana. The Car Talk Vehicle Donation Program makes donating a car easy, and sends the largest portion of your donation directly to the station, while you enjoy a tax benefit.

Donating Your Car To Public Radio in Louisiana

Donating a vehicle to public radio in Louisiana is an easy process, but you’ll want to be aware of a few specific steps:

  1. Select the public radio station in Louisiana you’d like to support
  2. Complete and sign your vehicle title
  3. Note: If your vehicle is missing its title, you can obtain a duplicate from the Office of Motor Vehicles.  You can find out more about title replacement on the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles’ website.

Somewhere near 1.4 million cars and trucks are registered in Louisiana. The average vehicle in the Bluegrass State is 11.3 years old, a bit newer than the national average, but there are still hundreds of thousands of cars in the state that it would be financially foolish to fix. But forgotten, unused, unloved cars are a great source of funding for your favorite local public radio station.

While the best part of donating a car in Louisiana is the support you provide to the people who deliver news, music and insightful talk to your radio every single day, the second best part is how easy it is to donate:

  1. Have your vehicle title ready.
  2. Click the link to the Car Talk Vehicle Donation Program to get started, call us at 1-877-215-0227 or you can choose the Louisiana Public Radio Stations from the list below.
  3. Answer the questions about your car and yourself.
  4. Select a date and time to have your car picked up.

It’s really that easy.

Can I still donate a car to my favorite NPR station if it doesn’t pass emissions in Louisiana?

Yes! Louisiana requires that 1980 or newer gas-powered cars and trucks with a gross vehicle weight rating of less than 10,000 pounds have to be emissions tested IF they’re registered in the 5-parish Baton Rouge ozone non-attainment area (Ascension, East Baton Rouge, Iberville, Livingston, and West Baton Rouge parishes). If your vehicle is gathering leaves and dust in your driveway because it wouldn't pass, or it won’t run, we’ll help you get rid of it and you’ll put it to good use. A vehicle donation is a great way to move that car along and support your favorite public radio station.

What kind of paperwork do I have to fill out when making a donation to NPR in Louisiana?

Of course, there’s a bit of paperwork you need to fill out. On the day your vehicle is picked up, you’ll need a few things to complete the process:

Vehicle Title: In order to complete your Louisiana car donation, transfer your title by PRINTING and SIGNING your name in the correct field on the BACK of the title, and make sure it’s EXACTLY as it appears printed at the top of the title.

How will my car get picked up when I donate my car to NPR in Louisiana?

The day of your scheduled vehicle pickup, you’ll need to provide the driver with the completed title, along with the keys. After the vehicle sells, you'll receive a vehicle donation receipt for tax purposes.
