How do I get started donating a car to Iowa Public Radio?
There are about 4.3 million vehicles registered in Iowa, including cars, trucks, SUVs, motorcycles and RVs. And the list of vehicles we’ll accept doesn’t stop there. We’re interested in boats, snowmobiles and ATVs, too.
The average car in the Hawkeye State is 12.9 years old, putting in the top 20 of states with the oldest cars. That means there are hundreds of thousands of cars sitting around that could be put to better use. These forgotten, unused, unloved cars can be a great source of revenue for your favorite Iowa public radio station.
While the best part of donating a car in Iowa is the support you provide to the people who deliver news, music and insightful talk to your radio every single day, the second best part is how easy it is to donate:
- Have your vehicle title and current registration ready.
- Click the link to the Car Talk Vehicle Donation Program to get started, call us at 1-877-215-0227 or you can choose the Iowa Public Radio Stations from the list below.
- Answer the questions about your car and yourself.
- Select a date and time to have your car picked up.
It’s really that easy.

Note: Iowa requires a title for any vehicle. If you don’t have the title, you can file for a replacement with the state.
My vehicle won’t run. Is it still ok to donate to an Iowa Public Radio member station?
Yes! We’ll take a non-running car and you’ll see a tax benefit along with the satisfaction of helping your favorite local Public Radio affiliate.
What paperwork should I have when I donate a car to an Iowa Public Radio member station?
On the day your vehicle is picked up, you’ll need to complete the vehicle title.
Transfer your title by PRINTING and SIGNING your name in the seller field at the bottom of the FIRST SECTION on the back of the title, and be sure to fill it out EXACTLY as it appears in the Registered Owner section.
What should I expect the day my donated car is picked up?
The day of your scheduled vehicle pickup, you’ll need to provide the driver with the completed title, along with the keys. After the vehicle sells, you'll receive a vehicle donation receipt for tax purposes.
